2010 4th Auckland triennial
"Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon"
1.The theme of "Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon" is to explore in risk taking and adventure of contemporary art. The name," Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon" has implication of adventure and excitement. And by meaning of adventure and risk taking in contemporary art suggests artists intentions of radical and innovative ideas in their works.
2.The role of a curator does not limit to introduce artworks to public. As well as passing artistic knowledge and trying to communicate artist's ideas the public, one is responsible for the full artistic acquisition of exhibition. Curator is similar or the same as art director of the exhibition who decides and work on a concept, collects the objects accords to the concept of exihibition, and displays the art works and takes care of them.
3. Europe, Middle East and Asia. 2010 Auckland triennial exhibition connects arts across different continents and the hemisphere. On the other hand, the focus is on the New Zealand contemporary art.
4. Triennial is art exihibition that opens every 3 years. It can be held in all over the world. For example there was Guangzhou triennial opened in China in 2002 and 2005. The triennial can be one of the city's main events.
5. 4 Arists who will be showing works in this triennial are: Tom Nicholson, Shigeyuki Kihara, Mamoud Bakhshi, Philippe Parreno

Mahmound Bakshi enveleoped political and social issues in this piece of artwork. He is particularly interested in the current controvarsies in Iran where is the homeland for him.
I like this work because at a first sight, this artwork looks so simple but there are deeper meaning to it. The artwork gives an image of a hot day in a desert where the cactuses burn due to the sun. However the flamy orange electric light may be suggesting the blood of the youth and by relating cactuses to the tulips,(as the title is "Tulips Rise from the Blood of Nation's Youth") it might mean something more than what we just see.
This work is very strong imagery of current issues of Iran for example anti-government protests and the aftermath of it. The use of media of neon and electric sources creates very simple but powerful scene of desert.
